Five feathers are on the East Grinstead Town Coat of Arms.  The Foundations five feathers signify Whakapono, Tūmanako, Aroha, Whānau and Whakaute (Faith, Hope, Love, Family and Respect).

The "thin blue line" is an international icon, recognising police as the line which keeps society from descending into violent chaos. Matt dedicated his working life to protecting others.

Whānau (Māori pronunciation: [ˈfaːnaʉ]) is a Māori-language word for extended family.  . A concept that Matt lived his life by and a culture he intilled into others.
